CER CHARGES Project Featured at ARPAe Innovation Summit

Cycling Hardware to Analyze and Ready Grid-Scale Electric Storage (CHARGES), a CER energy storage research project funded by the Department of Energy (DoE), was featured at this year's ARPA-E Innovation Summit Technology Showcase. The CHARGES project, funded for $3.6 Million over 4 years and led by CER program director William Torre, has just completed its second year. Over this time period, the project has tested and validated over 10 novel energy storage solutions from across the nation, in order to identify suitable electricity energy storage candidates for the grid of the future. On the summit's technology showcase floor, the project team presented multiple case studies to visitors from academia, industry, government and defense-focused groups.

In addition, CER’s senior research engineer Dr. Antonio Tong presented at the ARPA-E Shell GameChanger innovation pitch competition as one of the six finalists. His talk about a new approach to repurposing used electric vehicle batteries as stationary energy storage has receive wide interest from ARPA-E directors and conference attendees.

The ARPA-E Innovation Summit took took place in Washington, D.C. from February 27 to March 1, 2017.
